Mille came home and told me that Steen has a new girlfriend! And she’s sooo nice, Mum!!! And she’s a mega good swimmer! Can I start going to swimming lessons? She says I can get really good at it, and she’s a teacher at the place on the corner. Please, Mum?? She taught me how to swim underwater and I did it for almost a whole minute! She’s been swimming with dolphins before. I can start on Wednesday afternoon at four… oh please can I Mum??
A girlfriend??? What am I supposed to say to that? My heart stopped for a minute… with jealousy, UGH! I should be happy for my daughter … And it’s fantastic if Steen has found a good girlfriend who cares for Mille.
Lovely to hear Mille pottering around the house, not to mention the huge hug she gave me when I said yes to swimming lessons; now that’s true love. And it’s marvellous if she’s found something she’s passionate about… even if Steen’s new girlfriend was her inspiration… ohhh, jealousy has many faces. And I know that it can be a benefit of divorce that children get more adults in their life growing up and aren’t stuck with just one pair of parents, but she’s MY little girl… yes, uhm, rewind, Elizaebth, she’s her own little girl and it’s lovely that Steen has a nice new girlfriend. Must accept it. Done. Basta. For now!
Rebekka invited Mille and I to her summer house on Common Prayer Day and I said yes.
